Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Secures First Trophy in Over Two Years
19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the American major.
His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with former mentor his previous coach.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
It is the player's initial championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after spring of 2023.
The win also indicates he has won 21 victories at twenty-one various competitions.
"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
The player's retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to question if his ability to compete at the top level was over.
But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an improved service.
The champion came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.
Both players traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional title, seized the initiative to force a decider.
The opponent rescued 4 early chances in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.
Suitably, he secured the title with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
