A Pair of Arrests in the Aftermath of London Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack
An additional two individuals are now in custody related to a theft at London's Heathrow Airport where 21 people sustained injuries by a substance believed to be pepper spray, according to law enforcement.
A man, 24, was arrested in Lambeth on suspicion of theft and assault and a 23-year-old woman was detained on suspicion of conspiring to commit a robbery. They both are still being held, the force said.
These detentions follow a probe into an attack at the multi-level parking garage at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the incident, a pair of female travelers had stolen from them their suitcases after getting out of a parking garage elevator.
A three-year-old girl was among the injured in the event. Five people went to hospital for treatment and have since been released.
Officers arrested a man in his thirties for suspected theft and assault close to the location. He has since been released pending further inquiries while inquiries continue.
Authorities were alerted at approximately 08:10 GMT following reports of a number of people hurt by a noxious substance thought to be an irritant spray.
The attack - which police said was a standalone incident and not being treated as an act of terror - resulted in delays to rail services and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the T3 car park for a short time.
